In 2013, JCAC created the Jumping Chollas of Greater Phoenix (JCGP) entity to be affiliated with the American Kennel Club (AKC), and now hosts AKC agility trials. In April 2019, Jumping Chollas of Greater Phoenix was approved to host AKC scent work trials. JCAC is located in the northwest Phoenix-Glendale-Peoria area of Arizona at 25128 N. 15th Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85085 , which features a two-acre site with 30,000 sq. ft. of sports turf. We train our students for competition in three agility titling venues: North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC) American Kennel Club (AKC), and United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA). Our goals are to support the sport of dog agility and provide role models for responsible dog ownership. In addition to agility and scent classes, we also organize and offer seminars, demonstrations, trials and other events . Upcoming JCAC workshops, 2024-2025 Upcoming JCAC Workshops December 30, 2024 – Jeannie Biggers is staying an extra day after judging for JCAC’s New Years trial to do a seminar on Foundations of Agility. Even if you are well along in your training, you can learn really good stuff for your current dog or start planning for a future dog. And if you are new to agility, this will be a super opportunity to make sure you are starting your canine companion off with a good solid foundation. There are limited working spots, so get your application in ASAP. BIGGERS FLYER / REGISTRATION FORM January 21 - 23, 2025 – Stacy Peardot-Goudy is back once again. Stacy has been doing seminars every year for JCAC for over 25 years!!! That is a hint about how good she is. This seminar is for dogs in or getting ready for Elite/Masters/Excellent level. February 9, 2025 – Sunny Thetga , our other judge at our New Year's trial, is hosting 2 seminars at the Patch. These seminars are also great for dogs or people who are newer to our great sport, or not yet competing. Only 10 working spots in each seminar, so sign up as soon as you can. Top of Page Contact Training Director Policies Communication Class Schedule Fees Training Information Class Schedule Jumping Chollas Agility Club offers training classes in small groups, for all levels of agility, from puppies and new adult dogs through competition classes, as well as classes for kids. New to Jumping Chollas? If you're new to our club but have trained elsewhere, contact the Training Director, Wendy Hultsman, using the contact form at the bottom of this page to discuss the appropriate class for your dog(s) before applying. Policies If your dog is new to or just starting agility, it needs to start in the Foundation and Relationship class . The Training Director will contact you when there is a slot for you in the class and then your check will be cashed. Until that time all checks are held. If a student is under 16 years of age, s/he must have a parent or guardian present at the class. You may train as many dogs as you want, but only one dog per class please - unless approved by the Training Director. Register for only one regular class per dog with one exception: you may sign up for the Distance or Course class at the same time with the same dog. Dogs work in small groups - a maximum of 5 dogs per instructor - in all the regular classes, to ensure you get lots of attention. NEW ! Bitches in season may attend classes but they must wear panties until their season is finished. Analyzing Competition Courses (download flyer) 6 weeks on Wednesdays, April and May 2025 This “pop up course” is designed to help those who struggle with how to “read/walk” courses to maximize: Understanding the Dog’s path Getting the dog on the correct lead leg Timing commands to get the desired results Positioning yourself to improve teamwork and communication Maximizing independent obstacle performance Each group limited to 8 participants and 4 auditors Cost $90/dog (no jumping bucks). Elite level If interest is high in the summer, an additional night may be added for a second class Handler/dog requirements (handlers may only work one dog in a class) Novice/Open course. Students must have competed at least Intermediate 1and have solid 6 weave pole skills. Elite course. Students must have completed at least Intermediate 3, have qualified oh open level Regular courses and have solid 12 weave pole skills. Novice/Open: course is numbered & broken down into 3 sequences (depending on course 1-5, 5-10, 10-15). Students run each sequence individually and get instruction. If time & energy/brain power allows, students have the option to run the full course in its entirety at the end. Detailed individual instruction will be provided for each student. Elite: course is numbered and a distance box is placed for those that do distance. They will also run the course in pieces and then run the course in its entirety and get individual instruction on how to improve the trouble areas.
