Our off-site partner, Leaps N Bounds, offers a 20 week puppy program that can start your young pup off in foundation and then you can enroll in a Beginner or Intermediate class when they are older. Foundation & Relationship - Wednesdays 6:30 PM (7:30 PM starting in August) Focuses on the basic behaviors and tools which form the foundation for solid teamwork and obstacle performance. Starts training on contact boards, tunnels, hoops, operant learning, and more. Prepares you and your dog for Beginner I and higher. Foundation Application form NOTE : Our classes are popular, so there is often a waiting list for this class. Spots are offered on a first applied, first served basis. Junior Handling - Wednesdays 6:30 PM (Updated Oct 1. 2025) For Junior Handlers between the ages of 10 and 18 years. Handlers under 10 may join with approval from the Training Director and JH Instructors. Beginner 1 - Thursdays 6:30 PM Must have completed the Foundation and Relationship class or Leaps 'N Bounds (LNB) Puppy Class or Junior Handler class. Introduces you to training the contact obstacles, weave poles, jumps, and tunnels, and continuation of basic skills and tools that underlie handling, including stays (for start lines), recalls, and a release command. Introduces forward sends, rear crosses, front crosses and distance. Beginner 2 - Thursdays 8:00 PM Must have successfully completed Beginner I or Leaps 'N Bounds (LNB) Puppy Class or Junior Handler class. Continues training of contact obstacles and weave poles, and introduces training for other obstacles including the tire and table. Introduces distance handling skills and turns, beginning of sequencing several obstacles, and beginning handling and side change skills. Works towards running a short course by the end of the session. Intermediate I - Mondays 8:00 PM Must have successfully completed Beginner II class, Junior Handler class, or Puppy class. Completes the basic training of obstacles; begins focusing on handling, i.e., directing the dog through a course and continues handling and side change skills. Focuses on teaching turns, jumping skills, obstacle sequencing, blind crosses and rear crosses. Intermediate II - Tuesdays 6:30 PM Must have successfully completed Intermediate I class. Focuses on handling tools such as wraps, and front, blind, and rear crosses; continues distance skills, introduces obstacle discrimination and develops additional obstacle performance skills. You will gain experience running medium length course sequences. Intermediate III - Tuesdays 8:00 PM Must have successfully completed Intermediate II class. Introduces additional handling tools such as serpentines, sending to the backside of jumps, and 270s. Focuses on obstacle discrimination and continues work on distance, side changes, and obstacle performance skills. Novice - Thursdays 7:45 PM (Start time updated August 2025.) Must have successfully completed Intermediate III class. Prepares you for Advanced/Competition class. Focuses on using and applying handling and performance skills and how to analyze a course sequence. Works the same exercises as the Advanced/Competition class in a simpler or shorter format. Advanced/Competition - Mondays 6:30 PM; Tuesday 6:30 & 8:00 PM; Wednesday morning; Thursdays 6:30 PM Must have successfully completed the Novice Class. Includes dogs at all levels of competition, and those who just want to perfect their skills but not compete. Works on more advanced skills, while polishing and further developing the foundation skills required in successfully running agility courses. Distance - Monday Nights Admission to Distance classes requires approval from the instructor and training director. Monday 5:30 pm - Advanced Distance class (those previously in this class and have significant distance skills). Instructor approval is required to be in this class. Monday 6:30 pm - Intermediate Distance class (must have already taken at least one session of distance classes). Instructor approval is required to be in this class. Classes are limited to 8 dogs. Do not sign up unless you plan on attending all of the classes. Course Class - Wednesday 8 PM & Thursday 7:30 AM (Start time updated August 2025.) For dogs which have successfully completed the Novice class and/or Intermediate III. Course analysis and performance. Wednesday evening class focuses on NADAC style courses. Top of Page Contact Training Director Policies Communication Class Schedule Fees Training Information Class Schedule Jumping Chollas Agility Club offers training classes in small groups, for all levels of agility, from puppies and new adult dogs through competition classes, as well as classes for kids. New to Jumping Chollas? If you're new to our club but have trained elsewhere, contact the Training Director, Wendy Hultsman, using the contact form at the bottom of this page to discuss the appropriate class for your dog(s) before applying. Policies If your dog is new to or just starting agility, it needs to start in the Foundation and Relationship class . The Training Director will contact you when there is a slot for you in the class and then ask for payment. If a student is under 16 years of age, s/he must have a parent or guardian present at the class. You may train as many dogs as you want, but only one dog per class please - unless approved by the Training Director. Register for only one regular class per dog with one exception: you may sign up for the Distance or Course class at the same time with the same dog. Dogs work in small groups - a maximum of 5 dogs per instructor - in all the regular classes, to ensure you get lots of attention. NEW ! Bitches in season may attend classes but they must wear panties until their season is finished.     Upcoming JCAC workshops Upcoming JCAC Workshops Jeannie Biggers Seminars November 22 - 24 2024 Flyer SEMINAR 1 - NOVEMBER 22, 2024 - 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM - CHANCES Do you and your dog struggle in NADAC Chances? Then this is a seminar for you. Jeannie will help your team achieve more success in distance classes such as Chances. Your dog should be at least ready to compete (so able to perform all the obstacles) so at least Novice level. This seminar will be held at the JCAC training site we call the Patch, 25128 N. 15 th Ave., Phoenix, AZ. SEMINAR 2 - NOVEMBER 22, 2024 - 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM - STAKES - This seminar is meant for those who trial in NADAC Stakes classes, or who are interested in trying Stakes. (Stakes are the big distance classes in NADAC). So your dog should be able to do all the obstacles independently and at least at the distance seen in Elite Chances. This seminar will be held at the JCAC training site we call the Patch, 25128 N. 15th Ave., Phoenix, AZ. SEMINAR 3 - NOVEMBER 23 & 24, 2024 - 8:30 AM- 12:00 PM - NOVICE HANDLING - This is a 2 part seminar, so half on Saturday morning and half on Sunday morning. It will focus on the skills needed to successfully compete in NADAC Novice Regular and those who are new to NADAC Open Regular. So your dog should be able to perform all of the NADAC obstacles. This seminar will be held at 4946 W. Fallen Leaf Lane, Glendale, Az. (About 5 miles west of the Patch). SEMINAR 4 -NOVEMBER 23 & 24, 2024 - 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM - ELITE HANDLING - This is a 2 part seminar, so half on Saturday afternoon and half on Sunday afternoon.     Upcoming JCAC workshops, 2024-2025 Upcoming JCAC Workshops December 30, 2024 – Jeannie Biggers is staying an extra day after judging for JCAC’s New Years trial to do a seminar on Foundations of Agility. Even if you are well along in your training, you can learn really good stuff for your current dog or start planning for a future dog. And if you are new to agility, this will be a super opportunity to make sure you are starting your canine companion off with a good solid foundation. There are limited working spots, so get your application in ASAP. BIGGERS FLYER / REGISTRATION FORM January 21 - 23, 2025 – Stacy Peardot-Goudy is back once again. Stacy has been doing seminars every year for JCAC for over 25 years!!! That is a hint about how good she is. This seminar is for dogs in or getting ready for Elite/Masters/Excellent level. February 9, 2025 – Sunny Thetga , our other judge at our New Year's trial, is hosting 2 seminars at the Patch. In 2013, JCAC created the Jumping Chollas of Greater Phoenix (JCGP) entity to be affiliated with the American Kennel Club (AKC), and now hosts AKC agility trials. In April 2019, Jumping Chollas of Greater Phoenix was approved to host AKC scent work trials. JCAC is located in the northwest Phoenix-Glendale-Peoria area of Arizona at 25128 N. 15th Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85085 , which features a two-acre site with 30,000 sq. ft. of sports turf. We train our students for competition in three agility titling venues: North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC) American Kennel Club (AKC), and United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA). Our goals are to support the sport of dog agility and provide role models for responsible dog ownership.     JCAC's summer schedule of agility Fun Runs, Mini Trials, and Video Trials (VTs). Top of Page Schedule 2024 JCAC SUMMER SCHEDULE Is Your Team Ready to Trial? Jumping Chollas Agility Club (JCAC) hosts a lot of fun events for our members and students to stay active this summer. All activities will be held at the Jumping Chollas Patch (25128 N. 15th Ave.). A full schedule & description of JCAC Mini-Trials, VTs, Fun Runs, & Open Patch events are listed below. You can also d ownload schedule in PDF form . Mini-Trials Summer Mini-Trials are open to everyone and are a great opportunity for new handlers and/or dogs to get experience in a small trial setting. If you are unsure about entering a trial, please ask your current instructor if you are ready. You can also, check out “Is Your Team Ready” at https://tinyurl.com/Is-Your-Team-Ready Mini-Trials are a laidback version of a regular trial. Due to the summer heat, the trials are held at night with a start time around 6:30pm. Like regular season trials, you may request a Trial Mentor to help you during the Mini-Trials. You can request a Trial Mentor by emailing the Trial Secretary. Mini-Trial premiums are found on the JCAC website under events or go to the link here; https://www.jumpingchollas.com/trials-events Video-Trials (VTs) VTs are another wonderful opportunity for new handlers and dogs to get experience in running full courses in a laidback atmosphere. The cost to sign up and run in a VT is $5/dog and will need to be paid when you arrive. Please bring exact payment as change may not be available. Each dog will get 2 runs during a VT. During the Regular course VTs 4 runs may be possible if time allows. Unlike all other trials, VTs do not have an assigned Judge to score your runs. Since there is no judge you will need to bring a video recording device (phone or a tablet) to record your run. If you ran a clean run, you can then submit the video to NADAC & pay the $10/run fee to get your run Q recorded. More detailed VT instructions, rules, and how to submit runs can be found on the NADAC website. Unfortunately, no Intro VT courses will be offered. A signup sheet with start/run times will be posted via the JCAC Groups.io email group the week/weekend before each VT. You must sign up via the form to attend. Fun Runs Summer Fun Runs are a great way to get practice in. Each Fun Run will have a specific course set on the North Field. Proctor names are listed below. Proctors will send an email via the JCAC io email group with more information the weekend before each event. Everyone should get at least two chances to run the course (could be more if time allows). Please arrive early to help the proctor set the course on the North field. The course being set will be for Novice-Elite levels. Beginner 1 to Intermediate 1 students will have the opportunity to practice on the South field during the Fun Run. All NADAC exercise/equipment can be setup on the South field for all to work on. Non-NADAC equipment (teeter/tire) should not be used on the South field unless approved by the Fun Run Proctor. Please reply to the Proctors email if you plan to attend so, they know who is attending Open Patch Open Patch events are an open practice event. The assigned Proctor may setup a course or a set of exercise(s) of their choosing on the North Field. Proctor names are listed below. Proctors will send an email via the JCAC Groups.io email group with more information the weekend before each event. Like Fun Runs the South field is open for handlers to practice on NADAC style equipment (no teeter or tire unless approved by proctor).
